Models Railway

No matter what kind of layout you construct, you are sure to have your own unique creative experience. And that’s what model railway hobby is.

The first step to building your own table is deciding what size it will be, how much each section will weigh or cost, and what your track layout will be. Sections of your train tracks that feature lots of scenery may need additional support. To use an L-girder its the standard way to support specific sections of your track since it is adaptable to your needs and provides more than enough reinforcement.

One of the best things about present day is being able to access so many different materials and supplies. With the arrival of the internet, you can now have those hard to find toys or models delivered right to your door without needing to go anywhere. The only downside to this abundance of supplies is that you’re not always sure what you’re getting. Without actually looking at an item before hand, it’s possible to be mislead by images and descriptions. By being careful, you can avert many of the problems you might have purchasing items online.

Constructing model railway layouts is a great way of using leisure time in a creative and rewarding way. Kids and adults can work together to build these layouts in any number of scales from the largest to the smallest.

If you think that real trains generally go from point A to point B or work on a yard. So why not construct a model railway layout that mirrors the function of a shunting yard or a mining town with the trains being used to move the mined minerals to industrial centres. You can often find real life locations that you can use as the basis for constructing your own layout.

Model railway prototypes are great for giving you ideas on how to set up and operate your layouts. You model railway layout will become more realistic and so will the way that you operate your trains. By using a prototype you can model specific types of location or indeed locations themselves and then run the trains in the same manner that they would have actually run. This prototyping adds an extra dimension to a model railway layout and keeps the enthusiast interested in the project.

A look at the collaboration between Hattons and Heljan which has produced the Class 14 “Teddybear” one of which landed here in South East Queenland Australia last Thursday and is now running on my layout. All credit to Hattons and Heljan for producing such an unusual locomotive. Sadly quality control in the Chinese factory seems to be an issue yet again as you will see in this clip. There seems to be a difference between the samples they send for testing and what actually turns up in the box for you and I. If only production could be moved back to Europe perhaps Hornby etc might have more control over the final product. After all if Vitrains can produce competitvely priced Loco’s in Italy why can’t they. Perhaps when the global economy gets going again this is something that could be seriously considered.
